Common Bream ~ Abramis brama
AKA Bronze Bream
Juveniles known as 'Skimmers'

DESCRIPTION: To 9kg (19lb+) A deep bodied fish with a producible mouth. The mouth will extend forward and downwards forming a tube. A good sporting fish. An average fish will be between 40cm and 50cm (16ins to20ins) A big Common Bream is around the 80cm (31ins) mark. Known colloquially as 'A Dustbin Lid'!
DISTRIBUTION: The Common Bream is widely distributed in the Britain. Many lakes, most rivers and some canals will have a population of Common Bream but predominantly found in still or slow moving water.
HABITS: Common Bream are shoaling fish especially when feeding.
DIET: The natural diet includes anything edible that moves on the bottom - insects, larvae, worms and molluscs.
BAITS: Popular baits include: Bread, casters, maggots, shrimp, tinned meats, cheese and worm.
METHOD: A variety of fishing methods are popular with anglers for this fish, including float and ledger.
