About this deal

The manual indicates that the ionMug is safe to use under running water, but I bet you shouldn’t really do that (I cleaned each mug with soap, then quickly ran water only in the mug, not outside of it. Perhaps the idea is that it can stay hot forever when it's on the coaster, but then again who needs to have a hot beverage stay hot for a whole day or more? The main difference between the two mugs is Ember's smart technology, which is used to warm beverages to the user’s ideal temperature, whereas the YETI relies on double-wall vacuum insulation to keep beverages hot or cold.

Every time I walked from one room to another, I got a notification asking me to reconnect the mug and app. Instead, I’d classify this as a really lovely luxury, an item that made drinking coffee better in a way that I hadn’t expected. However, there was a threshold: when I poured cold water, the mug simply read “cold,” but it also flashed the word “empty” to indicate when there was no liquid. As mentioned, the Ember Travel Mug’s touchscreen is convenient for those times when you don’t necessarily want to pull out your phone. The built-in battery maintains your chosen drinking temperature for up to 3 hours, or all day with the included charging coaster. It really is one of those products that look stupid to people who don't own them, but is beloved by those who do. When I saw these results, I was even more convinced that a temperature-controlled mug could be a worthwhile investment since coffee loses so much heat so quickly. The difference between the Ember Tumbler and a typical vacuum-insulated tumbler is that the Ember Tumbler can keep your favorite hot beverage at your exact drinking temperature down to the degree.

The Ember Mug is designed with some power reserve, so even when the cup is no longer heating up because of a low battery, it's still locatable with ‌Find My‌. When I tested the Ember mugs in the Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, I wanted to know whether they really kept the coffee at a consistent temperature. I considered some of the things I prized in past reviews I’ve written, like double-walled insulated carafes with coffee brewers. We also liked that when we tapped the Ember logo located on the top portion of the mug, it allowed us to access the temperature gauge, battery percentage, and a rotating Ember logo. The Ember Tumbler was designed to last for up to 3 hours when poured in hot at a set temperature of 57°C.We tested the second-generation Ember Travel Mug for several weeks, closely examining its performance, ease of use, design, and cost. The redesigned Charging Coaster for the Ember Tumbler is smaller and thinner than previous Charging Coasters for a reduced footprint.
