About this deal

It's slow, and while I don't mind taking a languid ride through a few hundred pages if the writing is exquisite and the eventual end is worth the wait, in Evermore it just isn't. But having said that, there are also bad ones which I think far worse… there is a message that girls can’t have a relationship without having sex, that boys are allowed to be possessive and narcissistic without apology, and its okay to think you are ugly and unimportant, let people walk all over you. Though the familiar premise may hook many paranormal romance fans, none of the plot elements receive the thorough treatment they deserve, and the revelation in the end relies too heavily on backstory.

Noël pens a well-detailed story that makes it easy for the reader to visualize both the characters and the world around them. They are actually for pre-teens, I think, so nothing adult bookish about them whatsoever, just cute books to read. Deluged by everyone's thoughts and auras, Ever wears hoodies and iPod earbuds as shelter from psychic clamor, until mysterious hottie Damen silences it. But this is a testament to the world Sara created and all I can say is that it was a straight up beautiful finale. The whole, “putting up with a hot guy’s games” just cause you have a terrible crush on him and can’t bear to stay away, was disturbing. Ever can only be attracted to him and gets sucked into this mysterious world with more questions than answers. Haven becomes affiliated with Drina, much to Ever's dismay, which causes huge problems later in the story. This is clearly the point which led people into believing that there were vampires in this book, but the way that the authors works around this issue is quite interesting. So you think you're a wallflower and you think you have some kind of really cool selfless tragic indie life.

Same worn out story of an insecure girl falling for a mysterious/sexy/dangerous paranormal guy, same absent adults, same "love" without really knowing each other, same focus on outer beauty and expensive things, same gazing into each other's eyes, and same chaste sleeping in the same bed. If your dude friend fetishizes your sexual preferences, your clothing and your body size, you don't have to try and twist it into a joke or pretend to enjoy the attention even though it makes you feel sick.Since domestic abuse begins with one partner manoeuvring the other to have limited contact with anyone else, we must strive to normalize this in literature. I loved the sisterly relationship in the book – the scenes that involved the two of them, were some of my favourite parts. It turns out that there's this magical tree with a magical fruit that when you eat it, it makes you "truly immortal".

I kept waiting for one big revelation, but really it’s just revealed piece by piece which was a welcoming change of pace. Review: So I really liked that this wasn’t your typical Vampire book – I mean there’s nothing about wanting to drink someone’s blood, so that was quite nice. Evermore was an immediate bestseller and as of August 11, 2009, it had spent 25 weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers list for children's books. And I think during book three or four or something, Damen starts to be a little more minimalistic─dressing less fancy, getting rid of his expensive car, etc─and you know what Ever does? Teens will identify with Ever, who not only has to deal with relationship and friend issues, but also with a dead sister who refuses to cross over and crippling psychic powers that make it hard to cope with everyday life. After a while Ever and Damen form a 'relationship' out of god knows where-there are many parts in which our dear author here submits bits of information without us knowing, it's either that or I was too bored to notice. It’s very important that her full focus, socialization and all of her needs are eventually devoted or met by the male protagonist. It’s much easier to ignore tying together a number of plot points in any believable fashion and instead rely on some Deus Ex Machina to come in and take care of thoughtful planning for you!
