About this deal

This book came into my house when my lovely wife (at the time my lovely girlfriend) moved in with me, and it amused the heck out of me. He has numerous TV writing credits and was part of the double BAFTA-winning team behind The Mrs Merton Show. Fueled by a lust for life and a desperate desire to do anything other than what he's supposed to be doing (writing a novel.

Gorman had replied to "No sorry" in fury, insulting the man and attacking him for not being open with his girlfriend. He has numerous TV writing credits and was part of the double BAFTA-winning team behind The Mrs Merton Show . That is, until a chance encounter during the Armitage Shanks literary awards at the oddly familiar Deja-Vu Club lead Jack and Mary on the hunt for missing journalist Henrietta 'Goldi.

Maybe not a big deal now, but a decade ago the idea of a quasi-theatrical monologue like this seemed revolutionary in the comedy world. He started at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, from where the show moved to the Sydney Opera House and became the biggest-selling show at the Studio Theatre there. Jason Zinoman of The New York Times gives the show a positive review, lauding Gorman for making "an art form" out of "wasting time on the Internet". Gorman performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2003 before touring around the UK for three months, finishing at the Hammersmith Apollo.

The only downside to this one was that I felt the story plateaued in parts and towards the end was a bit of a filler to hurry the story along.

Philip Brandes of Los Angeles Times reviews the show positively, praising Gorman's "impeccable" timing and ability to link the "disparate narrative threads" seamlessly. l'inglese e' molto fluente (frasi brevi e con termini decisamente non complessi), quindi una lettura facile per chi ha una conoscenza anche non approfondita della lingua! Gorman had run out of money from the publishers' advance and was obliged to repay the money as he had not produced a novel; the publishers were uninterested in him writing a non-fiction book about his travels. The show has been described by Zinoman as picaresque, [1] and compared by Brandes to Around the World in Eighty Days.
