About this deal

Full of mystery and adventure, Skeleton Keys will stretch vocabularies and imaginations. Children will love the outlandish story with monster chases and ghoulish beheadings, which is ultimately about friendships, fitting in and being confident in yourself. Ever so slightly biased, as I love Stitch Head! Was concerned that I wouldn’t like this book as much, but I shouldn’t have worried- I loved it!

The year was Something Something. Humans had spread like peanut butter across the galaxy, looking for new planets to call Somewhere. Children will laugh their heads off at this zombie adventure. Full of gooey fun, the story is a rollercoaster ride with monsters, close calls and a sweet friendship, too. Switek] compellingly evokes the sheer wonder and complexity of the supporting framework inside you—and the murky human responses it arouses.”— ScienceBrian Switek writes with remarkable grace about the natural world. In Skeleton Keys, he looks inward, making us keenly aware of the marvels of the bones that give us the scaffolding we need to survive. Every chapter has some surprise, told in elegant tales, that you will repeat to your friends.”—Carl Zimmer, author of She Has Her Mother’s Laugh: The Powers, Perversions, and Potential of Heredity From touring the famed Mutter Museum and London ossuaries, to ferreting out what really happened to Richard III, Skeleton Keys is a lyrical love letter to the 206 or so bones in the human skeleton and the colorful figures who have studied them over the centuries.”—Jennifer Ouellette, author of Me, Myself, and Why and The Calculus Diaries On December the 25th, one man delivers presents to all the children around the world. But what he does for the other 364 days a year has remained a mystery. Guy spent his childhood reading comics and hoping one day to become a superhero. He spends his adulthood in more or less the same way. In this delightful natural and cultural history of bone, Brian Switek explains where our skeletons came from, what they do inside us, and what others can learn about us when these artifacts of mineral and protein are all we’ve left behind.

Smart, lively, and hugely informative, Skeleton Keys is the ideal guide to the bones around us and in us.”—Elizabeth Kolbert, author of The Sixth Extinction Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments My 7 year old adored this book and insisted I read it next. How could I say no to such an excited reading recommendation. When Skeleton Keys banishes Wordy Gerdy from the present using his Key to Time, he thinks he’s seen the last of the troublesome unimaginary. But Gerdy uses her ghostly pen to wreak her revenge, and before Skeleton Keys knows it she’s written his precious keys out of existence.

Join Santa and his new Little Helper, Elf Agent Jingle Bells, as they do battle with the evil Dr Nimbus and his weather warping machines. In Skeleton Key, Alex notices a Geiger counter in a Game Boy Advance ( Nintendo DS in later publications) console he was given by his "parents", deducing that Turner and Troy were sent to the island to search for a nuclear bomb. The two CIA agents reluctantly reveal their suspicions and their plan to infiltrate Sarov's residence – the Casa de Oro - by scuba diving into a cave underneath the house that features a ladder formerly used by smugglers that leads to the grounds. Alex goes with them but stays on the boat while Turner and Troy go underwater. When they do not return after a while, Alex dives in and, after a close encounter with a shark, discovers a mechanical spear trap disguised as stalactites and stalagmites that had impaled Turner and Troy, which kills the shark as well. When he resurfaces, Alex is captured by Conrad, Sarov's disfigured right-hand man, who drugs him. Although Alex reluctantly tells the truth when interrogated by Conrad, he decides to kill Alex anyway by feeding him into two large grindstones in a sugar mill. Sarov stops him at the last second and Alex passes out. The audio book was read beautifully and the characterisation (especially Skeleton Keys himself) was an absolute hoot. The reader did a great job all round. I was impressed by him. Greetings! My name is Skeleton Keys and these fantabulant fingers of mine can open doors to hidden worlds…
